Freshtel currently sell our 1040 Headset, the 2070 USB handset, the 4030 Stickphone and the 3010 ATA.
The 1040 Headset is an audio headset that is plugged into your sound card.
The 2070 USB Handset is a USB sound device that bypasses your sound card completely, and allows you to dial more like a standard phone.
The 4030 Stickphone is a USB Memory Stick and sound device that comes pre-loaded with the Freshtel internet phone – simply plug it in and it will autorun.
The 3010 ATA is typically connected to your internet connection, rather than your PC. It allows you to use Freshtel with any standard home phone, including cordless phones.
No. If you have a Freshtel account and the Freshtel internet phone softphone on your PC, you simply need some sort of microphone and speaker to use our service. While our hardware is designed and tested for use on our network, you can certainly use third-party hardware on Freshtel if you wish.
All Freshtel hardware comes with a 12-month warranty.
You can order Freshtel hardware through our online shop. Freshtel hardware is also available from leading retailers including Officeworks, Clive Peeters, JB HI-Fi, Radio Rentals and Bing Lee.
Yes. While our hardware is designed and tested for use on our network, you can certainly use most third-party hardware on Freshtel.
Yes. None of our hardware is locked to our service. You can use our hardware on any other service supporting the same protocols as Freshtel. Please note that the 2070 USB handset is designed for use on our network, and the keypad and screen may not function correctly on other services.
The 1040 Headset simply plugs into the microphone and speaker ports on your soundcard or the front of your PC. You will need to have a working internet connection and the Freshtel internet phone softphone running on your PC in order to use the 1040 with Freshtel.
Yes. You may need a 3.5mm splitter or double-adapter in order to have both the 1040 and the speakers plugged in at the same time.
The 2070 USB phone simply plugs into any free USB port on your PC. We do not recommend using the 2070 through a USB hub. You will need to have a working internet connection and the Freshtel internet phone softphone running on your PC in order to use the 2070 with Freshtel.
After plugging in the 2070, the Freshtel internet phone will display a dialog box saying that it has found a new USB Audio Device. Click ‘OK’, and the 2070 will be set up as the default sound device for the Freshtel internet phone softphone – you’ll be ready to make calls!
On the 2070 USB phone, the '+' key is replaced by the '*' key in the bottom left of the keypad. It will have exactly the same effect as typing '+' on your keyboard when dialling.
As the 2070 USB phone includes a keypad, you can dial directly from the phone without needing to see the PC screen. The number that you’ve dialled will be displayed on the LCD screen. Remember that the '*' key replaces the '+' key on the 2070 keypad.
If you prefer, you can still dial directly through the Freshtel internet phone softphone using your keyboard.
Yes. After setting up the 2070 USB phone:
At this point, only Freshtel should be set up to use the 2070 USB phone. All other sound will be output from your speakers.
No. In effect, the 2070 USB phone is a USB soundcard. It does not use your existing sound card in any way. This is especially useful if you’re experiencing poor sound quality through your existing sound card, as the 2070 bypasses it completely.
While the 2070 USB phone can be connected to a powered USB hub, we recommend that you attach it directly to a free USB port on your PC.
Yes. The 2070's speaker and microphone can be used with any application or service. However, the screen and keypad may not work on other services, as they’ve been designed especially to integrate with the Freshtel internet phone softphone.
The 4030 Stickphone simply plugs into any free USB port on your PC. We do not recommend using the 4030 through a USB hub. You will need to have a working internet connection in order to use the Stickphone with the Freshtel internet phone softphone. You do not need to have the Freshtel internet phone softphone installed on your PC to use the 4030 Stickphone – the 4030 contains a special version of the Freshtel internet phone softphone which will autorun when it is plugged into a USB port.
Plug the hands-free speaker and microphone into the 4030. After plugging the 4030 Stickphone into a free USB port, the Freshtel internet phone softphone will autorun and ask for your Freshtel number and password. Once you have entered these, your Freshtel number and password will be saved on the Stickphone for future use.
Yes. The 4030 Stickphone is a 128MB Memory Stick, and more than 120MB will be available for other files.
No. The Freshtel internet phone softphone runs directly from the 4030, and there is no need to install any software to use it.
Yes. Once unplugged, the Freshtel internet phone softphone will close, so that other users cannot use your Freshtel account.
You will need a free Ethernet port on your router or PC, a power point, and any home phone handset.
Unlike other Freshtel hardware, the 3010 ATA is typically plugged directly into your Internet connection, rather than your PC. For example, you might plug your 3010 ATA into your router or modem/router, allowing you to make and receive calls even if your PC is turned off. If you do wish to attach the 3010 ATA directly to your PC, you will need a crossover Ethernet cable and your PC will need to be turned on in order to use the 3010 ATA.
You can attach any standard home phone to a 3010 ATA. For example, you might want to use a DECT base station with several cordless handsets.
Only if you’ve got the 3010 ATA directly attached to your PC. If your 3010 is attached to a router or modem/router, your PC will not need to be on.
Yes. You can make calls through the Freshtel internet phone softphone installed on your PC and a 3010 ATA on your home network at the same time. However, you cannot use the same Freshtel number and password on both devices at the same time. A Freshtel number can only be active at one point on our network at any one time. So you’ll need to have one Freshtel number in the 3010 ATA and another in the Freshtel internet phone.
After logging in to your 3010 ATA, go to the General tab. You can change the speaker and microphone setting to make them quieter or louder. The phone handset attached to the ATA may also have its own volume control. You can test your microphone volume level by calling our Echo number *1001 from the 3010 ATA.
Remember to click the Save Changes button and reload the 3010 ATA after making any changes.
You can reset the 3010 ATA to its factory default settings by dialling **3 on the attached handset, then pressing 1 when requested to confirm.
After logging in to the 3010 ATA, go to the Provider tab.
The server is gateway.freshtel.net
The User ID is your Freshtel number.
The password is your Freshtel password.
Remember to click the Save Changes button and reload the 3010 ATA after making any changes.
Make sure that your 3010 ATA is plugged in properly. If your ATA is connected to the internet, then you may have a static IP address. If so, you’ll need to manually set the 3010 ATA to have a static IP address as detailed in the 3010 ATA Configuration Guide. If you’re attaching your 3010 ATA directly into an Ethernet port on your PC, you’ll need to set up Internet Connection Sharing for the ATA, and use a crossover Ethernet cable instead of the included Ethernet cable.
The 3010 ATA Configuration Guide has detailed instructions on how to do this.
If the light is flashing red, then the ATA is powering up. If it is flashing orange, the ATA is trying to connect to the Freshtel network. If the light is solid green, then the ATA is connected to the Freshtel network. If the light is blinking green, then the handset is off the hook.
After logging into the ATA, go to the General tab. Set the Impedance to the desired region. If using the ATA outside Australia, you’ll need to set the Progress Tones to the appropriate region.
Some fax devices have issues transmitting and receiving through VoIP services. If you wish to try using fax on a 3010 ATA, you’ll need to set the codec to G.711, which will require at least a 512/128k broadband connection. Please note that we cannot guarantee fax over our service.
When dialling Freshtel numbers from an ATA, you will need to put a * in front of the number dialled. So to access your voicemail, you will need to dial *123.
When dialling Freshtel numbers from an ATA, you will need to put a * in front of the number dialled. So to call the Freshtel number 8000 1234 (the Test number), you will need to dial *8000 1234.
While we do not provide support for Macs, there should be no difficulty in using the 3010 ATA on the same network as a Mac.
After connecting the 3010 ATA, dial *** on the handset. The 3010 ATA will read out its current IP address.
If you have a broadband connection of at least 512/128k, you may wish to set the 3010 ATA to use a higher-bandwidth codec such as G.711 to improve audio quality. After logging into the 3010 ATA, go to the Network tab and set the connection type to LAN. This will set the 3010 ATA to use the G.711 codec by default.
The 3010 ATA uses the IAX2 protocol, and supports the G.729, G.726 and G.711 codecs.
Generally, no. While some home handsets do allow multiple lines to be attached, most home phones can only be attached to either your 3010 ATA or your wall socket.
No. In fact, we recommend uninstalling the Freshtel internet phone softphone if you have a 3010 ATA. You cannot have the same Freshtel number active at more than one point on our network at any one time.
To call the Melbourne number 03 9999 1234 you would simply dial 03 9999 1234. You could also add the Australian country code of 61, and dial 613 9915 6415.
To call the Australian mobile 0400 123 456 you can simply dial 0400 123 456 or 61 400 123 456 (which is leaving out the 0 and replacing it with +61)
To call the UK number 708 1234 5678 you would add the UK country code of 44, dialling 44 708 1234 5678.
To call the 13 number 13 1234 you could dial 13 1234 or 61 13 1234.
To call the 1800 number 1800 123 456 you could dial 1800 123 456 or 61 1800 123 456.
